How Did A Company Create Domain Names Before The World Wide Web?
I don’t get it. These days you have to use things like GoDaddy.com to create a domain. What did they do before then?
ie. How did Google create their own domain? If they did, is it possible to still use the method Google did? Did the url already exist and they bought it off someone?
Thanks. XD

Lawsuit Being Threatened For A Website I Setup About A Company?
I recently setup a website using the company’s name as the domain. It now appears as the #1 hit in google for that company’s name. I voice my experience and opinion about the company. The owner of the company called me today about it and threatened a lawsuit for what is known as “malicious intent.” Can I get in trouble for the site or should I not back down. I will only back down if it is more trouble then it is worth to keep the site up. He said he’s already lost thousands, but I checked the hits for the site and it only has 6 unique visits so far.

Starting My Own Web Design Company – Am I Eligible To Any Grants Or Government Loans?
Hello, I am 21 and aim to set up my own website design company as sole trader. However at the moment im officially unemployed and claiming job seekers allowance.
I have all the equipment that i need including my domain name, webspace, computers etc. My plan is to really get my name out there through advertising and actively approaching businesses with free website mock-ups as a key sellling point.
My question is given my current situation am i eligible to any grants, funding or government loans for advertising costs (i.e. yellow pages, business cards, newspaper adds, mail etc). I have looked around but with so much on offer on the internet i have no idea where to start and what services will be worth applying for. As you can imagine i dont wish to fill out lengthy application forms if i dont have a chance for the grant in the first place.
I genuinely appreciate any links that you may have regarding funds if they are relevant. I also appreciate any other input and advice on setting up a business, advertising ideas and general knowledge (dont spend hours writing up though i already have my business platform its just the money situation – as always!)
Thanks again in advance.
Craig

What Is A Good Cheap Domain Name Registration Company, And How Long Have You Used Them?
I want to use Microsoft Office Live free website hosting, but bring my own domain name so if I want to quit, I can keep my domain name to take it elsewhere to host my website.

Domain Name Stolen By Hosting Company?
I paid for a domain name & hosting, and I prepaid annually. It was fine since 2002
Last fall new company bought out old company and didn’t tell anyone. They didn’t send out rewal notices. My two sites were shut down. I contacted them REPEATEDLY and they don’t reply. The few times they did write back theyd “look into it” and it’s still not fixed.
Turns out the original company put the ownership and all the control in THEIR name even know I paid for the name. New company locked it so I can’t alter or move my name.
I contacted the upper level reseller, godaddy.com, for help. They had me fill out forms, which I did; no reply back. I filed a Reqest for Change last November for both of them formally including sending my photo ID and proof I was paying for the name; no reply. ICANN won’t help me.
Right now my site is gone. They put some junky search page up.
The site isn’t worth a fortune so I can’t hire lawyers, but it’s basically my real NAME. It’s important to me
help!

How Can I Tell What Domain Names Are Registered By A Specific Company?
Is there a way to tell what domain names are registered with a specific company? For example, Microsoft. Is there a resource on the web where I can enter in Microsoft and then see what domain names are registered under their name?
