Hello, I am 21 and aim to set up my own website design company as sole trader. However at the moment im officially unemployed and claiming job seekers allowance.
I have all the equipment that i need including my domain name, webspace, computers etc. My plan is to really get my name out there through advertising and actively approaching businesses with free website mock-ups as a key sellling point.
My question is given my current situation am i eligible to any grants, funding or government loans for advertising costs (i.e. yellow pages, business cards, newspaper adds, mail etc). I have looked around but with so much on offer on the internet i have no idea where to start and what services will be worth applying for. As you can imagine i dont wish to fill out lengthy application forms if i dont have a chance for the grant in the first place.
I genuinely appreciate any links that you may have regarding funds if they are relevant. I also appreciate any other input and advice on setting up a business, advertising ideas and general knowledge (dont spend hours writing up though i already have my business platform its just the money situation – as always!)

Try the website below, I found it after a brief search. It’s the official website, but if you do a search for “company start up government grants” you’ll get lots of links to other sites. Another good source is whichever bank you intend to open your company bank account with, they should be able to help with information too, after all it’s in their interest that you succeed.
If you are claiming JSA you may be entitled to financial help to start your business from the DWP. I’m not 100% sure but it’s worth checking out. If you are it may not be a great amount but it all helps.
there’s a company called ‘go for it’ who give out loans to new businesses and also try the Prince’s Trust. good luck!
