Please Can Somebody Explain About Buying And Selling Domain Names?

Please can somebody explain this to me. I have heard that it is a good way to make some extra £££££. Can I asked firstly if this really works, or is it just another one of those things that claims you can make money.. If this does work, can somebody give me some advice on how to get started and explain the process. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

In the ‘old’ days, before the likes of Google and other search engines, the “only” way to find a web site was to ‘guess’ it’s name and type it into the address bar …
Thus, for example, “loans4sure” would have a lot of ‘value’ if you were offering loans ..
But these days, few web site names have value .. (do a google on ‘loan’ to see how many sites come up that you would never have ‘guessed’) ….
However, you CAN get lucky if a big Company wants a particular web site name eg. for some advertising campaign = for example, I wonder what ‘comparethemeerkat.com’ would have fetched ? (but who would have thought of that ‘in advance’ ???)
Needless to say, registering any domain with the name of an existing company will simply result in legal letters pointing out the ‘trade mark’ infringement and you will end up having to pay to transfer the domain name to them …

Godaddy sells domains for $7. You think of a catchy domain name that you think will be visited by people, even randomly, who are looking for certain things. Look for a webhost to host your domain and put in a page that will serve ads for you. Make sure that you are paid when ads are displayed, and also when they’re clicked. If enough people visit your site, you may get more than the $7 and the hosting fee back.
If you have a name that someone becomes interested in, you can sell it for a lot more.
