I made a website using iweb, but now I’m getting email notifications saying that I need to renew my subscription to MobileMe, which is, I guess, what iweb runs through, but I didn’t have to pay for it when I made my website, but now I do apparently. I don’t use MobileMe in any other way.
It costs $99/year, which is only $8.25/month but I still don’t want to pay for it, partly because I’m pissed they tricked me into using their software, only to say now that I have to pay or they’ll delete my website…. which is good blackmail because I don’t want to lose my website!
I don’t even like the fact that to access my website you have to type “web.me.com/blahblah” I’d rather it be just “blahblah.com” anyway.
Should I pay to keep my website? Or should I let it just be erased and buy the domain name of my choosing (would that even be cheaper?) and remake my website through something else all over again (would this cost money too)?

iWeb shouldn’t delete your website if you can’t upload it. It should stay on your computer under your home folder in the Sites folder. You can buy a domain name (which is http://www.blahblah.com) and upload the site files up to the domain name. I’m not sure about the cost, but you could probably find a cheap domain name. With MobileMe, you get an email address, 20 GB of online storage, an online photo gallery, and some more stuff. If you want that, get it. Otherwise, get a domain name.
OR, use a service like Yahoo! GeoCities, Google Sites, or FreeWebs (now just called Webs) and get a site like http://www.webs.com/blahblah, but it’s free and they come with site-building tools. It’s your choice.
